General

The Club meets in Knowle Mill which is a former worsted textile mill constructed in 1906-08, built in stone with slate roofs and currently in multiple use. Owing to its heritage it has fairly good access for guests and members who are wheel-chair users or of limited mobility. Car parking is free for the use of all occupants and visitors of the Keighley Business Centre though there is finite space and with no direct allocation of spaces

Access to the Club rooms

Routine access is from the main car park at the front of the building via the 56” wide double lift lobby doors. The clubrooms are situated on the top floor to the Northern end of the mill (third floor)

The car park is of a mixed surface of tarmac in the main area and the existing exposed cobbles in areas further away from the entrances. The doors are approached up a short ramp and it then levels out to the entrance lobby and the small passenger lift. There is a larger goods lift which is of industrial proportions via another set of front doors or a single 32” door from the passenger lift lobby

Access to Club rooms-from front door

The passenger lift has double concertina doors which require some effort to operate and the operating handles are located mid-way up the door. This lift is limited to 6 persons or 500kg and is 43” x 44” with an access width of 42” with the doors fully back

The larger goods lift is on the opposite side of the lift shaft and also has double concertina doors which also require some effort to operate. This lift has far greater volume and carrying capacity as befits a goods lift

In the case of evacuation where the lifts are not to be used there are stairways on either side of the lift shaft fitted with emergency lighting and handrails. These stairs are also of industrial proportions and there are 10 steps before a landing and a further 10 steps to the next floor. The staircase is 44 inches wide and steps are 11 going and 8 rise these dimensions being consistent on all floors

Access to areas within the clubrooms

Once to the third floor the double concertina lift doors open out into the clubrooms which are a flat area with passageways between the layouts and work areas leading to the kitchen, seating area and toilets at the far end the main passage being 72”

Toilets

There are separate male and female toilets at the far end of the clubrooms with hand washing facilities outside. Additional facilities are available in other parts of the main building

Both Male and Female toilets are accessed via separate single width doors 2′ 1″ maximum width. Neither W.C’s are wheel-chair accessible and the Female toilet has a 2” step down

Kitchen area

Access is via a single width door with a 2’ 3” maximum opening and the counter tops and appliances are of domestic height. The fridge is of a floor standing model

Social area

The seating and tables are all movable and can be positioned where required for the use of the social area
